My Bowflex Xtreme Review - by Tim (New Orleans, LA)
I had to comment about my BowFlex Xtreme home gym. I went with the Xtreme over the basic Bowflex model as I tried one out at a friend's house and I preferred the wider foot print and crossed beams of the Bowflex Extreme model. The wider base makes the whole unit feel even more stable and safer, even if it does take up a little more floor space at home.
After working out on my Bowflex Extreme for a few days I noticed that the 210lb basic level of power rod resistence was far too low for doing leg work, so I immediately ordered the Power Rod Upgrade to increase the max resistance to the full 410lbs. Now I feel the burn in my legs, and I really like the power curve that the bending of the rods gives compared to free weights.
The cable system is easily adjusted when switching between exercises, and I haven’t even tried them all yet - after a whole year of ownership.
What most impresses me about the machine is the safety I feel using it at home. I used to use a traditional bench with free weights and was always worried about dropping the weights and getting injured, which really hampered my progression. With my BowFlex home gym, I feel the confidence to really "go for broke" without needing a spotter or concerns about having the weights crashing to the floor.
When I have the funds to expand my workout area, I’m seriously considering upgrading to one of the Bowflex Ultimate series.
